Leading & Accompanying
Those who accompany a Creating Space experience are not asked to teach, interpret, or direct what happens within it. Their work is quieter: preparing a hospitable space, offering a completed contemplative experience, and receiving those who have shared it.
Presence, hospitality, listening, and restraint matter more than having the right words.
Creating Space is less about leading people somewhere than about making room for what may already be happening.
Two ways of accompanying
Creating Space makes an important distinction between accompanying an experience that has already been created and creating a contemplative experience for others.
Facilitating Creating Space
For those preparing to offer a completed Creating Space experience to others.
The facilitator's work is to prepare the space, welcome participants, release the experience without intervening in it, and receive those who return from it.
The Contemplative Work of Creating
For those interested in the formation and prayerful work involved in creating contemplative experiences.
This path is intended for those with an established prayer life and experience accompanying others who want to explore how contemplative experiences are received, created, tested, and released.
