Prepare to Facilitate As Life Changes Shape

DOR-001 · A Creating Space Day of Reflection

As Life Changes Shape is a gathered day of reflection. This page takes you from preparation through the day itself. Read the facilitator manual before leading; during the gathering, use it for the spoken words, transitions, and schedule.

The three movies carry the contemplative movements. Start each movie once and let it finish. Its Scripture, silences, and internal chimes are part of the recording. Your role is to welcome participants, protect the space, and guide the transitions around it.

Prepare for the day

  1. Read the Facilitator Manual. It contains the complete order of the day, spoken text, and directions for each transition. The movement transcripts are there for reference and are not read aloud.

  2. Prepare the room and materials. Use the Setup and Materials Checklist. Print a participant schedule and provide a journal or reflection pages and a pen for each person. Have the Open Time sign and a Road Home booklet for each participant, plus two extras.

  3. Prepare and test the media. Keep all four recordings available offline, with a tested backup. Check the picture, sound, and playback from the place where participants will sit.

Media for the day

Download all four recordings before the gathering. Test each one on the equipment you will use, and keep an offline backup.

Start each movie once and allow it to play through. The movies include their own silences and internal chimes; do not pause them, advance them, read along, or add chimes within them. The midday witness is a separate audio recording. Keep the screen visually quiet while it plays.

Hold the day

The day begins with arrival at 8:30 a.m. and the Opening Movement at 9:00 a.m. It closes at 3:00 p.m. The facilitator manual gives the full schedule and the words to use at each point.

Personal integration is protected retreat time. A scheduled break is ordinary free time. Keep that distinction clear, and allow participants to sit, pray, walk quietly, write, or simply remain during integration. No one is required to speak or reach a conclusion.
