Journaling as a Way of Noticing
Sometimes an experience passes through our day without receiving much attention.
A brief conversation. Something that surprised us. A moment of gratitude, frustration, or uncertainty.
Writing can help us return to such moments and notice what might otherwise be forgotten.
Journaling does not require beautiful language, complete sentences, or even a clear understanding of what we are experiencing. It is simply an opportunity to listen more carefully to our own lives.
A small practice
Find a quiet place and allow yourself a few moments of silence.
Think back over the past day.
Is there one moment that has stayed with you, even if you don't know why?
Write about that moment for a few minutes.
Describe what happened, what you noticed, or what you remember feeling.
There is no need to explain it, draw a conclusion, or make the writing meaningful.
When you have finished, put down your pen.
Remain quiet for a little while.
Notice what stays with you.
You do not need to do anything more.
Sometimes attention begins simply by allowing an ordinary moment to be remembered.
