How do we recover ordinary life?

Much of life is made of things that do not seem important while they are happening.

Meals. Errands. Conversations. Waiting. Walking from one room to another. The small repetitions that make up a day.

It is easy to overlook ordinary life while waiting for something more meaningful to happen.

What if the life we are looking for is already here?

Things worth noticing

  • Which ordinary parts of your day do you tend to rush through?

  • What small routines quietly sustain you?

  • When do you feel most at home in your own life?

  • What do you miss when you are always anticipating what comes next?

  • Which ordinary moments have become more precious with time?

  • Where might God already be present without announcing it?

A small experiment

Choose one ordinary moment today and receive it without trying to improve it.

  • Make a meal slowly.

  • Notice the room you are sitting in.

  • Pay attention to someone’s face while they speak.

  • Step outside and remain there for a few minutes.

Then notice what was already there.

Ordinary life is not what happens while we wait for something more important.
It is where most of our life with God is actually lived.
