Facilitator’s Guide
Formation and practical guidance for accompanying a Creating Space experience.
The Creating Space Facilitator’s Guide is for those preparing to accompany a completed Creating Space experience with others.
It is not a script for directing what happens within the experience. Instead, it offers formation and practical guidance for preparing a hospitable space, welcoming participants, holding silence, making room for reflection and sharing, responding to difficult moments, and bringing the gathering gently to a close.
At its center is a simple understanding: the facilitator does not need to make something happen. The work is to prepare, remain present, listen, and make room.
What the Guide offers
It includes guidance for preparing the space and media, welcoming and orienting participants, holding silence, making room for reflection and sharing, responding when difficult moments arise, and bringing an experience gently to a close.
The Guide also attends to the facilitator’s own posture: presence rather than performance, hospitality rather than direction, listening rather than interpretation, and restraint when the temptation is to fill the space.
The Guide is meant to be returned to—not mastered before someone begins.
